Are you dreaming of cooler temps and cozy days? Read more of what I’m looking forward to with the transition to fall.
I’m a true lover of the seasons. I like the summer sunshine. While I’m not a huge fan of a long winter, I can appreciate the quiet solitude of the season. Perhaps I most love spring and fall because of their warm afternoons and cooler evenings.
With school starting soon, it’s already beginning to feel like fall, even if the late summer heat is still stifling.
Here are five things I’m looking forward to this fall.
- College football
- Beach weekends
- Fall ball
- Cozy clothes
- Feel good food

College football
Perhaps one of my longstanding fall indulgences is watching College Game Day every Saturday morning on ESPN. We’re huge college sports fans in general and love college football.
I enjoy all the special interest stories about the athletes and coaches. It’s fun to see the rivalry weeks and of course, who doesn’t love an underdog story?!
If we aren’t up and at a field with our own kids, I love having a leisurely morning, sipping coffee, and watching Game Day.
And then of course, you have to catch the day’s scores to see if the commentators’s picks were right! College football is one of my favorite parts of fall.
Tailgating and going to the game in person are awesome if schedules allow. If not, catching the prime time matchups outside by the fire pit are a great second choice!
Beach weekends
So, this one might have you scratching your head, like, huh?! But hear me out!
Fall at the beach is my absolute favorite. You still get the warm afternoon sun. My kids are crazy enough to jump in the water and can spend hours playing in the sand. There’s fewer people, so we can spread out on the beach and enjoy a game of catch without throwing into others.
In Autumn, it’s cool enough for Bronx to enjoy being out on the beach with us. We can go for long bike rides around the island. The beach is just peaceful and beautiful during fall.
If extreme heat isn’t your thing, try the beach in the offseason, it just might become your favorite time to be there! Follow Diamond by the Sea on IG and see some of the perks of autumn on the NC coast!
Fall ball
Okay, if you’ve read my blog, this one goes without saying…I love fall ball. Yep, both our kids are playing fall baseball and softball. To be honest, these are their favorite sports, so we play baseball and softball almost year round at this point.
Fall ball is great because after the initial few weeks, it isn’t terribly hot and uncomfortable for weekend tournaments. We get the benefit of crisp mornings, but warm days. It’s truly the perfect weather for baseball and softball.
It seems like most teams use fall to develop and work on new skills, so for whatever reason, it doesn’t feel as intense as the spring season.
We play baseball and softball in all conditions, so honestly, it’s always a great time to be on the diamond, but I really look forward to fall ball each year.
Cozy clothes
The pending change in season has me longing for cozy clothes. I’m ready to ditch the stickiness of constant sunscreen and opt for a great hoodie and cozy pants.
There’s something comforting about layering a great sweater and jeans as the nights grow cooler. Or bundling up under a comfy blanket to enjoy the night game.
I’m already thinking about stowing away my summer dresses and packing away the shorts and getting ready to restock my closet with long sweaters, oversized hoodies, leggings, and jeans to stay cozy this fall. I love a good closet reset and fall is the perfect time to refresh my options.

Feel good food
With cooler temps on the horizon I find myself browsing Pinterest for feel good foods for fall. I love the way the smell of a simmering pot of chili permeates the house on cooler days.
One of my favorite fall meals is grilled cheese and homemade vegetable soup.
Throw in some pumpkin muffins and steaming cup of hot tea and I’m ready for a cozy day inside watching college football and noshing on yummy food!
Finally, between all the time outdoors enjoying time with our families and friends, I love the brilliant colors the leaves turn as we enter a new season.
What are you looking forward to enjoying this autumn?
