Hi, I’m Salem, a.k.a ‘Smetz’ (a moniker my adorable husband gave me), author and content creator of The Smetz Files!
I married my college sweetheart and became an educator. In the height of the pandemic I earned my PhD in teacher education and am passionate about developing children’s literacy and coaching teachers. I am an advocate of volunteerism; I can’t resist a good crime novel, a cup of coffee, or a great pair of sunnies.
Beyond my professional and civic interests, I’m an avid sports fan and stay busy raising the next generation with my Yankee Doodle, my partner in all life’s greatest adventures, the daily grind, and everything in between! We call the Triad, NC home, and when not working or shuttling kids to assorted activities, we spend as much time as possible at our second home on the NC coast.
I began blogging in 2023 and have had a lot of fun learning new things, leaning into news of thinking about expression, and attempting to be vulnerable in my personal writing. You can read more about how I organized my blog in this post.
