Now that the Super Bowl is over, most sports fans turn their attention to baseball. (Unless of course, you’re a college basketball fan!)
Pitchers and catchers reporting.
Opening Day.
The snow is melting, so naturally, it’s time to get outside and shake off winter!
Not so fast!
The warmth of spring days may be tempting, but if you love a young baseball or softball player, don’t stow away your winter gear just yet.
Keep reading for ways to stay warm on those cold days at the field. Stay cozy while you cheer on your favorite athletes!

Load up your wagon, Sports Mom, and let’s head to the field!
The key to staying warm is layering. By the time I hit the field, I feel a bit like an Oompa Loompa because I have put on so many layers, but hey, I like to be nice and toasty!

Base Layer
Start with these as a thin base. Save the bulk for jackets and blankets to top everything off! I like these three packs because I can buy the kids’ team colors to stay on brand with our team gear. Plus, the kids wear them under their jerseys and to practice when it’s cold. So, we have several in rotation!
Heated Vest
Once you have an adequate base, start adding layers. Next, I opt for a rechargeable heated vest. You can wear these as outer wear. But on days that are extremely cold, I tend to wear this closer to my body and then add a coat or blanket on top to keep the heat in.
I like this vest option because of the heated hood and warm coils behind my neck. It fits nicely over a hat, or beanie. With three heating settings, you can adjust the warmth as needed for the weather.
Top Layer
I’m a big fan of wearing their team gear, or at least coordinating in their team colors to show my support. That can be harder to do in colder temps, because I don’t have outerwear in every color of every team they play for…my closet is NOT that big!
These long puffer coats come in neutral colors. I can add these over my team hoodie and their length keeps my legs warm as I cheer them on from the sidelines. And, I can wear them on cold winter days when I’m out and about or walking the dog.
For an extra cozy top layer, try this wearable blanket. It keeps my arms and hands free to keep the scorebook, and it has pockets, which is always a win in my book! The hood is a nice added feature and it’s just plain soft. This doubles as a nice blanket for the couch, too!

Warm Accessories
Can you tell I’m not a fan of being cold?!
If I have to sit all day at the ball field, I want to avoid freezing. This lightweight heated seat cushion keeps my buns toasty. I can add it to my sideline chair, or my padded bleacher seat to keep my sit bones warm and comfy.
On games when I keep the book, my fingers get chilly. Sometimes gloves are too cumbersome, so I keep these rechargeable hand warmers in my pocket. They have multiple warming settings, so I can adjust as needed. The kids keep a set in the dug out to warm their hands between innings. On days they are pitching, these are especially helpful.
Don’t forget a charging block to keep everything powered if your game goes to extra innings!
When is spring?!
So, yeah, I’m looking forward to hearing the pop of the ball hitting the glove and crack of the bat crushing a ball to the outfield. But, let’s remember, those early ‘spring’ games can by anything but warm.
