What I’m Wearing to the Ball Field this Summer

Sports moms, what are your go to looks for summer days and nights at the ball field?

Whether you’re a veteran or a rookie, all sports moms face the quandary of what to wear to the ball field, especially in the heat of summer.

Full disclosure, my post focuses on baseball and softball suggestions because that’s what my two play, however, I feel like most of these will transfer to any outdoor sport you find your kids playing. Also, thank goodness for indoor volleyball and basketball to mix in some AC to our summer sports line up!

Priorities

I’m a fan of anything with pockets and bonus points if it’s in their team colors. Here’s a list of items I keep reaching for when I’m planning to spend the day cheering on my favorite athletes!

Caveat: consider your personal preference and the facility where your kids are playing when deciding what to wear. For example, I like to know if they’re playing on turf or dirt infields (hello, not wearing white if they’re playing on dirt!). It’s also helpful to know the bathroom situation (no one wants to wear something complicated into a port a potty!).

Athleisure dresses and skorts

I typically opt for a skort or sports dress if the weather is nice. See my warning above about knowing the bathroom situation at the field!

Dresses

Skorts and shorts

Sometimes it isn’t practical to wear a dress. I like the style and flexibility of skorts with built in shorts (and usually pockets!) or breathable sporty shorts. Throw on your favorite team tee or athletic tank and you’re ready for a day a the field!

Beat the elements

Naturally when it’s hot at the ball field I like to keep the sun off my face. This hat comes in tons of color options, so I have several to mix and match depending on the team I’m cheering for.

Cap

Once the sun sets on another evening at the field, sometimes I want a little something to throw over my shoulders to keep the chill at bay. I throw this versatile lightweight jacket in the wagon so I’m prepared for a slight dip in the temperature.

Jacket

If the heat is really unbearable, a nice fan keeps me cool. We keep big fans under the tent between games, but I also like this one I can wear around my neck. It’s hands free, which is a plus on the days I’m keeping the book!

If I’ve learned nothing else from my years on the sidelines it’s to expect the unexpected. AND if I’m going to be cheering them on in sweltering temperatures, I may as well try to be as comfortable as possible!

Let me know which ones are your favorites!
