What is your go to pump up song when you need to be motivated?
Our family spends a lot of time at sporting events and when there’s a great playlist it can be exhilarating!
Last spring as we were between baseball tournaments I started a new playlist on Spotify to get the kids in the mood for game day and added some of the classics we hear at sporting venues consistently.
First on our game day playlist was Metallica’s Enter Sandman. That was Jay’s entrance song when he pitched. It’s become customary for us to play this as the final song as we’re approaching the ballpark. It’s a bit nostalgic, definitely gets your heart pumping, and the kids like it because of the connection to dad.
We included mostly rock and hype songs from sports movies. We added other songs from Jay’s playing days, new ones the kids like that are current, and songs from different sporting events we’ve attended over the years.
Recently the kids have been giving more input into songs they want to add to the Game Day playlist. At first I was hesitant (making sure songs are PG!), but I find it’s great insight into their current interests, their ever developing identities, and who they are becoming, which is super cool! Also, it’s an ever present reminder of how not young I am! Though, I am currently loving Shaboozey’s vibe.
Our Current Favorites
- Enter Sandman – Metallica
- Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne
- Sunday Best – Surfaces
- I Ain’t Worried – OneRepublic
- Anything Taylor Swift!
- Little Boo Thang
I am continually amazed at their ability to sing along with the lyrics, how they know artists instantly, and can speak comfortably about different music genres.
The playlist has really evolved, we’re up to nearly five hours of run time.
