Alright, fellow sports moms, what is on your favorite young athlete’s holiday wish list?

Raising young athletes isn’t cheap! From team fees to private lessons and gate fees, sports get expensive.

And that doesn’t even touch the gear. There’s so much gear!

Our garage is overflowing. At this point it’s a de facto locker room with storage for our assortment of sports equipment. We do manage to squeeze two cars in!

When our dimpled duo made their wish lists for the upcoming holiday season they included lots of sports equipment and gear.

We’re in the middle of basketball season with flag football starting in the new year. Of course, baseball and softball season (our family’s all time favorite!) will be here by March.

I rounded up links to their most asked for items this year. Remember sports equipment varies based on your athlete’s size, league regulations, etc…these are just a few things our two hope to find under the tree Christmas morning.

Basketball

Both kids needed new basketballs to practice shooting around at home. Of course, they also needed new basketball shoes. I feel like we’re buying shoes every other month around here as they both grow out of gear so quickly. Here are a few they liked: [click the pictures for links]

Flag Football

Each winter our local youth sports league hosts a brief flag football season. G has played the last several years and loves the extra opportunities to get outside and play with his friends.

You don’t typically need a lot of gear for flag football, but here are a few things on his wish list for this season. Despite the moderate climate in central North Carolina, winter afternoons can be cold, cold gear and leggings are a must. And you always need the right sized football!

Baseball

We bought cleats for G back in the fall for his birthday. But as we started brainstorming his needs for spring seasons a few items popped up. As he grows he needs new equipment. His turfs from fall season were way too tight, so he added a new pair to his wish list.

You can never have too many baseballs, so I’m thinking Santa will drop off a fresh bucket of pearls at our house! 🙂

Softball

S started playing softball in 2023 and during the fall season she learned to catch. First item on her wish list was catcher’s gear! A new bat and a bucket of balls for training at home and she’ll be ready for spring season in no time! 🙂

Training

So, they have all the gear and look the part! Congratulations!

Now, let’s think about training tools to support their development. Here are a couple options we have. Again, consult your coach for a specific training regimen.

I use a lot of these for my personal fitness goals, too!
