If you aren’t a fan of overspending and overindulging for every. single. holiday, this list is for you! We often opt for books at gifts.

Here are five books for toddlers to early readers that this educator mom thinks your littles will love for Valentines:

Valentine Versions of Some Classics

Eric Carle books are favorites of many kids. There are a few variations of his classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This Valentine version is perfect for preschoolers and toddlers. With bright colors and a predictable text, this book is great for little readers to listen to again and again!

Little Blue Truck, another childhood favorite, takes on the holidays with this valentine version. I wrote about G’s love and affinity for the other versions of Little Blue Truck. This one is sure to be on repeat with your preschool crew!

One of S’s all time favorite series is Pete the Cat. One of her preschool teachers did a book study on Pete the Cat and we got our very own class Pete to take on adventures for a few days. Once she returned to school she wrote about our adventures with Pete and her teacher compiled a class book with all the students’ writing. Needless to say, we have all the books in the Pete the Cat collection. Snag this Valentine one to surprise your young reader!

Puppy Love

As an educator I’m a huge fan of alphabet books. You can find ABC books on a plethora of topics and they are especially good to engage writing for elementary students. This alphabet book is a great option to explore love and kindness.

We love the unconditional love of a dog in our house. This book is a great story of a pup who loves to love. A sweet story that the young dog lover in your house will well, love!

  1. Thanks for the list. Since you also include more general books about love, not just those specifically about Valentine’s Day: “I love you through and through” from Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak is a very nice book about love for toddlers (and up).

    • Awesome, thanks for the recommendation! I’ll have to check it out; thanks for reading!

  2. ABC of Love is a nice book! Learning the alphabet is vital and knowing more about love and kindness is so much more. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Thanks for the book reviews. I have grandsons that I buy books for all the time. I am always looking for something new.
