Read how our family’s love of baseball expanded.
If you’ve read my blog or follow me on Instagram, it’s no secret our family loves baseball. The diamond is our happy place. We spend as much time as possible at the baseball field.
When S decided last spring to step away from competitive gymnastics (a huge decision she bravely made), she wanted to try new things to stay active. One thing she emphatically wanted to try was softball.
Family legacy
Since her older brother has played baseball for years and her dad is a former player, she has practically grown up on the diamond. Between college games and Gs various travel tournaments, S has a good working knowledge of the game, so we were encouraged she wanted to attempt playing softball. We quickly got her registered for a small, local rec league. It was a great first taste to see if softball captured her interest beyond being a sister spectator!
S loved it so much she instantly wanted to register for a more developed fall softball league. This time she’s playing kid pitch for the first time!
Throughout the summer when G went out to hit a bucket of balls in the net, she went out too. When Jay took them up to the field to work on fielding, S took a turn too. She’s been locked in and working hard to keep up with some of her teammates who have played for years and are really developed in their skills.
Jay and I try to give them every opportunity possible to explore their interests, develop their talents, and focus their energies on being healthy, active, and good teammates. S has been focused and determined at practices. She has come home and worked on conditioning and agility. She proudly wears one of her big brother’s old practice jerseys. She looks the part! It’s exciting to see her engage in a new sport and work hard at something that doesn’t come as naturally to her as gymnastics did.
It’s been great fun finding yet another way for our family to spend time together on the diamond, enjoying all baseball and softball offers.
