I’m a Libra. In this post I reflect on what that says about me.
I’ve never paid too much attention to Zodiac signs. I’ve enjoyed reading my horoscope over the years, but beyond that I never thought about if my sign aligned with who I am. Recently my kids have been interested in their Zodiac signs and what they represent. So, I took a closer look at mine and here are my reflections.
Libra
I’m a Libra. I did a quick internet search and here are a few key descriptors of Libras.
According to Aliza Kelly, contributor at Allure Magazine, those born between September 23 and October 22 are balanced. They tend to fixate on symmetry and seek equilibrium in their lives. Libras tend to value art and intellectualism. They prioritize ‘we’ and value relationships and connections. Libras consider multiple angles when decision making, thus they can be ambivalent. While they seek alternate perspectives, Libras are great at initiating new projects. This analysis encouraged Libras to trust their instinct and use their charm to navigate situations.
You can read more or research your sign.
As I read the Libra description in the Allure article I found myself nodding in agreement. I also found myself pausing, ‘does that really describe me?’
Yep, That’s Me
I found myself emphatically agreeing with a few descriptors. Mostly the ones that focus on balance and equilibrium. The calm feeling balance brings is something I strive for in all aspects of my life. When things feel chaotic, I tend to feel anxious and work hard to re-establish an equilibrium. This is true whether it’s at home, at work, or parenting. The old adage smooth waters never made a skilled sailor does NOT give me comfort!
Next, I value intellectualism. I tend to gravitate to smart people. I like to surround myself with those who will push my thinking and from whom I can learn new things. Though it was frightening and intimidating at times, I found great energy in my return to graduate school for a PhD. I relished the opportunity to read, write, and think deeply about others’ ideas and make sense of seminal work. I enjoy intellectual conversations that feel like give and take, not a challenge (see my initial point of craving balance!). I also appreciate well researched counterpoints that give me an alternate perspective and way of thinking, another Libra characteristic.
Finally, the descriptor that perhaps most resonated with me was the idea of ‘we’. I am most comfortable sharing experiences and credit with a collective. I value connections and relationships. I like partnering and collaborating with others. I derive motivation and enjoyment from contributing to the collective work of the group. It’s this idea of connection and relationship that prompted me to start blogging.
Ehhh, Not So Much
One descriptor from the article that I don’t think aligns with my personality is the emphasis on art and exterior appearances. I definitely like pretty things! But I’ve never had a keen eye for art. I appreciate the work of creatives, but I can’t say I’m knowledgeable and discerning. Maybe that’s something I should lean into and explore, given that I appreciate intellectualism and the idea of continuous learning.
I’ve read a lot recently about centering and resetting. There are blogs, social media posts, and self-help books about prioritizing. Part of focusing on what’s most important is to identify exactly what those things are. It’s been fun to write and reflect on a lot of things. I like the idea of journaling and free writing and just seeing where my mind goes.
Reading more and learning about what my astrological sign details was an entry point for initial reflection. It helped me see areas that are natural to my personality, but also places for me to lean in and grow in new directions.
