As I’m busy preparing lists and coordinating our family’s holiday schedule, I’m struck by all the stuff we have.

So, this gift guide is a bit different. I highlight different ideas for gifts than the traditional online shopping or frantic race for day after Thanksgiving sales. This post outlines shopping small and supporting local.

Show Up for Small Business Saturday

The Saturday after Thanksgiving is still a big day to shop. We love local businesses and restaurants in our home town and our home away from home at the beach. Don’t forget to show your favorite small, local businesses some love this holiday season (and all year long). Gift cards are perfect if you can’t decide on the perfect item, but want to support your local retailers, artists, and restaurateurs. Participate in Giving Tuesday

If you’re shopping for the one who has everything, Giving Tuesday is another great day to support organizations important to you and honor those you love. Gifts you make to nonprofit organizations are tax deductible, so if you’re looking for a last minute gift, make a donation in someone’s honor. 

Honorariums to consider:

• Faith organizations
• Public schools
• Colleges & universities
• Local food bank
• Theater/arts organizations

You know your person, choose an organization that fits their passions and interests and give away!
