Full disclosure: I am NOT a crafty person. Nor, do I claim to be. So, if you are a crafty person, I applaud you and am envious of your super talents. But please, don’t be too disappointed. If you aren’t crafty, hang in there, this one is for you!
Celebrate Your Love
Previously I’ve written about how we don’t go all out to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I mean, we recognize the holiday, but there are no ostentatious shows of affection with elaborate dinner plans or expensive gifts. We’re pretty much minimalists when it comes to certain holidays, opting to show our appreciation throughout the year.
Nevertheless, here’s one inexpensive way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and show your significant other how much you love them.
Like many couples, we have consistently exchanged cards on Valentine’s Day. Some years ago I got the idea to expand the card to a list of things I loved about Jay. Considering how much I love him, the list quickly grew! I happened to be in the Dollar Tree, probably buying things for my classroom, and came across a deck of cards. I decided to buy the deck of cards and write one thing I loved about Jay on each card and include that as part of his gift for Valentine’s Day.
52 Things I Love About You
52 things I love about you. Super simple and super easy!
First, pick up a deck of cards. Then grab a pink or red marker and get to writing!
Check out this classier deck of cards and use metallic markers for an elegant gift.
Here are a few of mine:
- Your determination!
- You can pack a car for a road trip!
- You pay attention to detail!
- Watching you play with the kids!
- When you don’t understand something, you ask!
- Your hugs!
- You never know the words to songs, but you try!
This is just a sample of the 52 things I love about Jay. Some of them are silly, others are more heartfelt. But, I found it was a great exercise to purposefully name aspects about him that I loved.
And we got a good laugh out of some of the inside jokes on the cards!
Always Working on Our Relationship
As college sweethearts, we have been together more than half our lives. We have many roles. We are working professionals, parenting two active kids and our dog, volunteering in our community, and maintaining a household! To say we are busy is an understatement. But we’re never too busy to remind ourselves how lucky we are to have each other as partners in the daily grind, the unforgettable moments, and everything in between.
It might be time to redo this and add a fresh 52 things I love about Jay! I’m also thinking of doing a deck for my kids to remind them of their lovable characteristics.

Excellent idea, thank you for sharing ! I enjoyed reading your post. I remember I’ve done something quite similar few years ago but it was with a jar, I couldn’t believe I was that romantic haha
We aren’t super gushy either! I like the idea of dropping ideas in a jar…I’ll try that next time! Thanks for reading!
What a great idea. I did a coupon book last year with 12 things that I would do. He only ever claimed 2 haha.
Oh that’s fun! I should try that. What kinds of things did you include in your coupon book (that apparently you can reuse since he only claimed two!)?
Love it! I’m in the process of working on a Valentine’s post as well.
Can’t wait to see what you post! Thanks for reading!
