Elevated looks for the boys and men who want to dress up for special occasions.

Truthfully, I’ve become comfortable in my athleisure wear and more relaxed looks that replaced my dressier clothes prior to the pandemic.
But sometimes special occasions call for more elevated looks. This year between church, cotillion, and a family wedding, we have plenty of opportunities for the guys to dress up.
Here are a few ideas of what Jay and G might don in 2024!
Suiting Options for Boys
Between being a greeter at church and monthly cotillion class, G has plenty of opportunities to wear his nicer clothes (i.e. non sports gear!). Obviously he’s more at ease in a sports jersey, but he does like looking dapper when the occasion warrants it.
G moved up to Junior Cotillion this year, which includes the Holly Ball at Christmas and the Grand Spring Ball to end the year. In February he and I will go to the Valentine’s Dance. I am looking forward to being his plus one! G wants to be festive and wear a pink suit, so here are some options he’s considering for our mother/son dance.
Not every Sunday calls for a full suit. Especially in the warmer months, G can rock a pair of seersucker pants with a solid golf shirt. Check out this cute option to add to your son’s closet.
Suiting Options for the Big Fella
With a more relaxed business casual dress code Jay rarely wears suits anymore. When an event requires a more elevated look, my absolute favorite for him to wear is a navy suit. It’s such a classic look with a crisp, white dress shirt.
When we’re dressing for an event and he asks me what he should wear, the navy suit is my default. He grumbles that he always wears that, but it’s such a great look for guys. I like it when he pairs it with a bold tie. Peep this combo below.
Tie It Up With a Bow
When Jay still worked at the bank he had a weekly tradition. Each week he deemed Fridays ‘Bow Tie Friday’ and donned a different colorful bow tie to punctuate the work week. His regular customers loved it and looked forward to what flashy bow tie he’d wear next.
He no longer wears them to work, but Jay will dig into his collection and sport a bow tie to church or weddings as needed. I linked a few options to help you start your collection and be sure to visit NC owned High Cotton Ties for classic staples.
No matter what special event or occasion calls for dressing up, there are fun dress up options for the boys and men in your life! Tag The Smetz Files in your photos so I can see what your dapper guys choose!
