So long, summer: A recap of a great summer together

Sharing is caring!

The kids went back to school, so we said so long to summer this morning.

This is G’s last year in elementary school, so while this morning specifically was anticlimactic, this school year will be one of ‘lasts’ in preparation for middle school. [Reminder to start researching transition to middle school support for moms!]

I have to say we eked out every bit of enjoyment from summer 2023 possible. We found time to visit family and friends both near and far. We swam in a lake [see Summer Bucket list], in the Atlantic Ocean, and in the pool! We spent time on the diamond; practicing, playing, and spectating. Jay and I had an adults only trip [Cruisin’] while the kids enjoyed Disney and we spent time at our beloved Diamond by the Sea. All good things.

Back to school

That alarm clock was, well, alarming this morning. Startling me awake from a much needed deep sleep. We spent last week at the beach and made it home for a weekend baseball tournament in Virginia. Last night was a mad dash to find backpacks, organize school supplies, and pack lunches. Nevertheless, we dropped the kids at school this morning to a chorus of ‘good morning’ and ‘welcome back’ greetings from their amazing school family. Yes, summer represents a slower pace. It welcomes sleeping in and staying up late. But being back in school is a nice way to recalibrate, get back on schedule, and have some routines.

I love scrolling social media, seeing everyone’s back to school posts. It’s always great to see friends’ kids and then marvel at how grown up they all look, a stark reminder of time passing ever quicker it seems. I heard from various mom friends this morning as many of us hustled our kids back to school and we wished each other well as we navigate another year and all that growing up brings.

So, farewell, summer. You were amazing. But for now, I’m settling back into the school routine and looking forward to fall fun!
